Canadian Biosafety Symposium 2011


Join us in Toronto from June 6th - 9th, 2011 for Canada’s annual event for biosafety professionals and personnel involved in biosafety and/or biocontainment facilities.

The Canadian Biosafety Symposium will feature presentations and posters on an array of biosafety topics, including containment facilities design, maintenance and equipment; laboratory management and operations; animal containment; biosecurity; and, infectious diseases affecting human and animals. It will be a unique opportunity for the biosafety community to learn and share knowledge with colleagues from across Canada and other countries.

The 2010 Symposium brought together a number of participants working across the biosafety field in universities, government and the private sector, such as:

  • Laboratory managers and administrators
  • Academic and government laboratory researchers
  • Government regulators
  • Biocontainment professionals
  • Equipment and facilities providers
  • Containment facility design and operation specialists
  • Risk assessment and safety specialists

The event will feature prominent containment and biosafety specialists, and will involve presentations by the Canadian and international biosafety community selected from abstracts and papers that are currently being welcomed from all sources. All topics related to biological safety are welcome, however this year we would like to solicit presentations with a particular emphasis on "building biosafety communities". This theme was chosen to tie into "2011 - Year of Building International Biosafety Communities". This theme was chosen to tie into "2011 - Year of Building International Biosafety Communities". Examples of topics that focus on building biosafety communities include:

  • How you were able to sucessfully collaborate with another facility on a project
  • The designing/building/commissioning of a new facility
  • Profiling a program that facilitates information transfer
  • Leadership in biosafety training

 

The Canadian Biosafety Symposium is offered by the Canadian Biosafety Training Partnership that includes; PHAC, CFIA, CABS and ICID.
